Clear immigration at Dubai International Terminal 2 or 3 and meet your driver in the arrivals hall for a private transfer to the hotel in Deira or Bur Dubai. After check-in and a few hours to settle, you are picked up in the evening for a dhow cruise on Dubai Marina, past the Cayan Tower and the Ain Dubai wheel. Dinner is a buffet on the upper deck with unlimited soft drinks.

A half-day coach tour takes in the Dubai Museum quarter, an abra crossing of the Creek to the Spice and Gold Souks, then photo stops at Jumeirah Mosque, the Burj Al Arab and Atlantis on the Palm. In the afternoon you go up the Burj Khalifa to the 124th-floor observation deck, and the same ticket lets you walk into the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo in Dubai Mall. Stay on for the Dubai Fountain show at 6 pm — it runs every thirty minutes and costs nothing.

The morning is yours — most families use it for Dubai Mall, the Dubai Frame or a Metro run to Ibn Battuta. At about 3 pm a Land Cruiser collects you for dune bashing in the Lahbab red sands, followed by a camel ride, sandboarding and henna at the desert camp. Dinner is a barbecue buffet under the stars with tanoura and belly-dance performances; you are back at the hotel by about 9.30 pm.

A full day with nothing scheduled, which is deliberate. Popular add-ons are the Museum of the Future on Sheikh Zayed Road, Global Village from November to April, or a beach morning at JBR followed by lunch at The Beach. Our Dubai desk will book any of these for you at cost the previous evening.

No. The UAE tourist visa is fully electronic. We need a passport scan valid for six months, a white-background photograph and your confirmed return ticket. It is normally issued in three to four working days.
Dune bashing is bumpy and is not advised in pregnancy, or with a spinal or cardiac condition. Tell us in advance and the driver will take the flat desert road straight to the camp; the camp itself, with the camels, henna and dinner, is completely gentle.
Yes, easily. Bur Dubai and Karama have dozens of Gujarati and Jain restaurants within walking distance of the hotels we use, and both the dhow cruise and the desert camp lay out a separate vegetarian counter. Flag Jain food at booking so we can notify the camp.
August and September. Daytime temperatures cross 42°C so the touring is done at dusk, but hotels are half price and the malls, Burj Khalifa and the aquarium are all indoors and air-conditioned. Diwali week and the Christmas–New Year fortnight are the two most expensive slots of the year.
